Biographical Info
I learned by ear as a beginner and later studied attended York University earning a BFA and BED in Music. I travelled the world as a solo and touring guitarist for 20 years and learned many genres through performing with global musicians at festivals, theatres, stadiums and arenas. My influences are diverse – everyone from Jimi Hendrix to Tommy Emmanuel. I have been influenced by a multitude of musicians in various styles including Reggae, Bossa Nova, West African, Rock, Thai Folk and Polynesian. I will provide a clear path for you to progress on the guitar based on your musical interests. Jeff Gunn is a guitarist, songwriter and producer. He co-wrote and co-produced Emmanuel Jal’s Juno-nominated album The Key (Gatwitch/Universal). He is the author of the Hidden Sounds: Discover Your Own Method on Guitar (Mayfair Music Publications) and a regular “guitar tips” contributor in print and film with Acoustic Guitar Magazine, Guitar World, Canadian Musician, Overdrive (Thailand), and The Guitar Mag (Thailand). He co-wrote the song “Scars” with Jal and Nelly Furtado for the film The Good Lie (Warner Brothers 2014) and The Black Prince (2017) soundtrack. Jeff was one of three artists selected to perform at the NAMM Show Breakfast Sessions stage in January 2020 and he was a guest speaker at NAMM 2022. He released Sonic Tales with Fretmonkey Records, which was favourably reviewed in Acoustic Guitar magazine in May/June 2020. In November 2021, he released the lead single for Momentum “Spiritus Momentous (Never Give Up Opus 2) feat. Koi Anunta and Mike Sleath” on CandyRat Records YouTube platform. He designed and filmed five online guitar courses totaling 109 videos with JamPlay.com (2020-2021) and worked as a content creator in music and history for TVO in 2021-2022. He has recorded with Emmanuel Jal, Nelly Furtado, Nico & Vinz, Bibi McGill, Mark Pellizzer, James Bryan, Mike Sleath, Kae Sun, Domanique Grant, Rayzak, performed with DMC, Swizz Beatz, Nelly Furtado, Tanika Charles, and continues to serve as musical director for Jal opening for such acts as Tommy Emmanuel, Nico & Vinz, Peter Gabriel, Bonnie Raitt, Angelique Kidjo, Xavier Rudd, Mumford & Sons and Ellie Goulding. He co-produced Morgan Sadler’s “A Breath” (2023), James Bryan “Road Trip” (2022), and Domanique Grant’s “Cities (Interlude)” with Kuya Productions (2018). He has performed at Glastonbury, Juno Songwriters’ Circle, John F. Kennedy Center for the Performing Arts, Ringo Starr’s Birthday Concert at Capitol Records, NAMM Show Breakfast Sessions, United Nations, Grammy Museum Concert Series in Honour of Bob Marley, Jimmy Kimmel’s Annual Italian Festival, and at the Dalai Lama One World Concert. He has appeared on CBC, CTV Canada AM, Global TV, Good Day New York, Fox TV, Ted Talks, The Travel Channel (Thailand) and more. Jeff is endorsed by Godin Guitars, D’Addario Canada, Planet Waves, G7th Capos, Carl Martin and Eventide. I am a musician, author and historian with a thirst for adventure through music and writing.
